Hungary EU’s fifth fastest-growing economy

Hungary, together with Poland, is among the fastest-growing economies in the European Union despite not yet having received the post-pandemic recovery monies, the finance minister said on Thursday.

Citing the Central Statistical Office’s recent report on Hungary’s third-quarter GDP growth, Mihály Varga said on Facebook that Hungary was the fifth fastest-growing economy in the EU, with Poland fourth.

Both countries achieved significantly higher growth rates than the EU average of 2.4 percent, according to a graph posted by the minister.

Adjusted for seasonal and calendar year effects, Hungary’s GDP grew by 4.1 percent in the third quarter.

“Based on the available data, Cyprus and Romania logged the strongest quarterly GDP growth rate, 1.3 percent, among EU member states.

Meanwhile, economic output shrank in Belgium, the Czech Republic, Latvia, Hungary, the Netherlands, Austria, Slovenia and Finland.”
